Anderson Chapel at North Park University, 3225 W. Foster Ave. Chicago, IL 60625 Eligibility and Contest Rules:
The competition is open to any student member who is a student of a Chicago Flute Club member. Previous first-prize winners are not eligible to compete again in the same division. For the 2014-15 school year Senior Division students must be in grades 12 & under, Junior Division students must be in grades 9 and under, and Elementary Division students must be in grades 6 & under. All students will perform between 8:00 am and 4:00 p.m.
Application must be postmarked by October 6, 2014. There will be a $15 fee for late entries if they are accepted. Both student and teacher must be current CFC members. The competition may be limited to the first 40 applicants in each division. Dues may be enclosed with application. Membership dues are non-refundable. Teacher or parent/guardian MUST volunteer on the day of the competition or student will be disqualified. It will be the student’s or parent’s responsibility to verify information on the notice sent to them by the CFC Contest Coordinator. Time requests should be made in writing with the application explaining situation, but there is no guarantee a specific time can be accommodated. A confirmation letter or email with assigned times for the performer and for the volunteer will be sent approximately two weeks before the competition. Contestants who decide not to compete should notify Stefanie Abderhalden by October 6, 2014 to allow for necessary schedule changes. The application fee of $25—made payable to the Chicago Flute Club—will be refunded only if the cancellation is received on or before October 6, 2014.
There is no memorization requirement in any division. It is recommended to use the editions specified. If a student chooses to use a different edition or makes other changes in the part (such as to articulation or dynamics) the student must supply 2 copies of his/her edition for the judges when he/she competes. Contestants must provide their own accompanists for all pieces. A list of recommended accompanists is available on the Chicago Flute Club website or you may use an accompanist not on the list.
Junior and Senior winners will be announced at the competition, on our website, and on Facebook after all participants have performed, around 4:00. Elementary Division winners will also be announced at the competition, on our website, and on Facebook soon after all participants have performed earlier in the day. First place winners in each division will be invited to perform on a Chicago Flute Club Spring Members Showcase Concert during our 2014-2015 Season.
